Girls' Divisions

Girls_Final_Small

2nd & 3rd Grade

Players are introduced to the fundamentals of catching, throwing, ground balls, dodging, defense and offense. Game IQ is introduced, and we rotate players to all positions (defense, midfield, and attack). Defensively, girls are taught to stick check and play body position. While Bantam practices primarily reinforce skills, gameplay is also elevated with team formation on a modified field (60 yards long by 35 yards wide per USA Lacrosse standards). Teams consist of six players on the field at one time (there is no goalie). In the fall, there will be at least one practice and one game played in a weekend.

The Bantam division will field teams of approximately 12-14 players.

4th & 5th Grade

Players continue on with early fundamentals at a more accelerated level. Game IQ is reinforced and enhanced, and we rotate players to all positions (defense, midfield, and attack). Defensively, girls are taught to stick check and play body position. While Lightning practices primarily reinforce skills, gameplay is also elevated with team formation on a modified field (60 yards long by 35 yards wide per USA Lacrosse standards). Teams consist of seven players on the field at one time and goalie play is introduced. In the fall, there will be at least one practice and one game played in a weekend.

The Lightning division will field teams of approximately 12-14 players.

6th & 7th Grade

Its focus continues with the Lightning format (see above) but at a more accelerated level, while introducing more advanced Game IQ and nuanced play. This is the age where we begin to introduce full-field 12 vs 12 lacrosse with substitutes and goalie play too. In the fall, there will be at least one practice and one game played each weekend.

The Junior division will field teams of approximately 20 players each.

8th Grade

Our Senior division is comprised of 8th graders only, both experienced and new to the sport. Having the most experience, these teams will practice twice and play once a week in the fall. Practices will include skills, drills, and related LAX IQ before games are played, which are roughly one hour.

Senior teams are composed of approximately 20 players per team. The Senior division is only open in the fall season due to the many Atlanta-area middle schools that offer girls lacrosse teams during spring (and the commitment of time required).

Recommended Gear Purchase

Girls’ mandatory gear consists of a mouth guard, goggles, and cleats – items considered “basic” for play; hence, player preference here is recommended.
