The youth-centric elite league with everything you’d expect from Atlanta’s top-ranking rec league. With an intentional focus on the 2nd thru 6th grades, Surge Select continues practicing through May, with all tournaments taking place in June. Look for the official website launch shortly, along with tryout dates in August for the fall, 2022 and summer, 2023 season.
Why We Need You to Stay in the Game.
Join the many Surge families who have supported the turf field built by Northside Youth Lacrosse at NAHS in 2019. Beyond the extensive prep & building costs, our upkeep fees continue, along with an 8-year escrow earmarked to fully refresh the existing field in 2027. Yes, it’s a huge endeavor…but we got this…thanks to on-going contributions from our families and community overall.
Support our capital campaign during your registration process.
All contributions are tax-deductible, and very simply: provide the league with much-needed, premier field space for your player to continue to learn and advance in this amazing sport. Thank you!
Coaches Lookout:
If you’ve played and want to support the league as a volunteer coach (or know a player who would), or if you’d simply like to sideline assist, please contact Ken Lovic at 404.323.0603 or ken@surgelacrosse.com
Cheers From the Sidelines
While the Surge can boast many significant benefits, apparently so can our families…
"I continue to be impressed with the organizational structure, passion and positive energy instilled in everyone who works/volunteers with the Surge. From teaching skills to the time, effort and thought that goes into creating balanced teams, this league should serve as the model for all youth lacrosse programs."
"The Surge has started something important in our area that is very well done. We are so thankful that our boys have discovered lacrosse from this program.”
“This is our last year of Surge lacrosse and we will definitely miss the amazing coaches and the instructional care they give to the kids. My son loves this sport and that love was nurtured substantially with this league.”
“It was my son’s first experience with touching a lacrosse stick and he absolutely loves it. The coaches and volunteers have exceeded all of our expectations for the type of leaders we want to see in our son’s sports experience!"
“It only takes one Surge practice to realize that the coaches are the real deal – they know the sport, have the passion and patience, and preach sportsmanship. This is not a bunch of dads that agreed to coach because no one else would. Lacrosse quickly became my son’s favorite sport.”
"I had the opportunity to bring my grandson to the last four practices. I was impressed by the way each practice was structured and executed, the individual attention players received from the coaches and volunteers and how dedicated people are to a sport. Good luck and GO SURGE."
“The entire program is extremely well run: Coaches and organizers respond quickly to emails/calls; are positive and supportive during practices; and maintain a caliber that is uncommonly high. We make the drive to Buckhead from East Point three days a week because we are so appreciative!"
How We Move the Ball Further
Coaches
Our coaches know the sport, have played the sport (most in high school and college) and have the “get-through” ability that resonates with players at all levels. These volunteers come to each practice with prepared game plans, drills and a list of pre-determined activities. Surge coaches love and honor this sport. And that enthusiasm comes through season after season.
Organization
A strong focus on attention to details and management ensures families stay up-to-date each week, and keeps our league running smoothly. Whether with Team Snap, emails or announcements on the field, our coaches, commissioners and director provide on-going communication throughout. They also encourage an open dialogue for questions and comments all season long.
Variety
As a rec league, we draw from a diverse mix of players from many area public and private schools who possess varying degrees of game IQ and skill. That makes for more challenging play on each team. Over the years, NYL has coached boys from over 30 different schools both ITP and OTP! We do not cater to any specific communities but strive to make all boys feel part of the Surge regardless of ability, address or which school they attend.
Parents
While many of our parents may not know lacrosse, they definitely get the Surge. We appreciate that they appreciate all we are trying to achieve with their player and our focus overall. We are fortunate to have families that keep things positive, support the league however they can, volunteer when needed and respect the game (and referees)!
Locations
Practices and home games take place at North Atlanta High School turf and grass fields, Sutton Middle School turf field and various school and park fields as needed. Because seasons vary, you will be instructed each fall and spring as to where your activity will take place.
Boys Equipment
You can rent gear from us or purchase gear directly from retail sporting goods stores and used gear shops like Play It Again Sports. Required items include a helmet, mouth guard, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, lax stick, jock/cup, cleats and plenty of water while on the field. Learn more in FAQ.
Supervision
The Surge is thoughtfully managed by a volunteer team of over 25 experienced coaches, league commissioners, a dedicated board of directors and team moms and dads as needed. Learn more in FAQ and About Us.
