Welcome to the Surge
Latest Updates on Coronavirus:
4/3: Georgia is currently under Shelter in Place via Governor Kemp, so Surge remains on hold. However, our field scheduling and activity is not affected by schools being in session or out. It’s our hope that the league will be able to practice and play in early May. And, that we can extend the season through May 23rd. That would allow us to get in several games and a small Jamboree format (each team has multiple games) prior to summer’s start.
Of course, this is under the hopeful assumption that life returns to mostly normal by the beginning of May. In Covid time frames, that's a long way off. Any final planning will be based on updates from the CDC, the Governor's office and others.
In the interim, keep a stick in hand. Have a catch in the backyard with your player by simply using a baseball mitt. Or, integrate the tried-and-true method of increasing repetitions with wall ball.
Here’s a link that can help any player get better. For beginners, focus on the first 1:18 of this video. For experienced players, the rest of the drills provided are great. https://youtu.be/jCP5ze6OyKw

Northside Surge Youth Lacrosse serves to expertly teach boys’ lacrosse (from fundamentals through advanced skill sets), while providing an exceptional sports experience centered on teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, dedication and FUN.
How We Move the Ball Further
Our coaches know the sport, have played the sport (most in high school and college) and have the “get-through” ability that resonates with players at all levels. These volunteers come to each practice with prepared game plans, drills and a list of pre-determined activities. Surge coaches love and honor this sport. And that enthusiasm comes through season after season.
A strong focus on attention to details and management ensures families stay up-to-date each week, and keeps our league running smoothly. Whether with Team Snap, emails or announcements on the field, our coaches, commissioners and director provide on-going communication throughout. They also encourage an open dialogue for questions and comments all season long.
As a rec league, we draw from a diverse mix of players from many area public and private schools who possess varying degrees of game IQ and skill. That makes for more challenging play on each team. Over the years, NYL has coached boys from over 30 different schools both ITP and OTP! We do not cater to any specific communities but strive to make all boys feel part of the Surge regardless of ability, address or which school they attend.
While many of our parents may not know lacrosse, they definitely get the Surge. We appreciate that they appreciate all we are trying to achieve with their player and our focus overall. We are fortunate to have families that keep things positive, support the league however they can, volunteer when needed and respect the game (and referees)!
Cheers From the Sidelines
While the Surge can boast many significant benefits, apparently so can our families…
"I continue to be impressed with the organizational structure, passion and positive energy instilled in everyone who works/volunteers with the Surge. From teaching skills to the time, effort and thought that goes into creating balanced teams, this league should serve as the model for all youth lacrosse programs."
"The Surge has started something important in our area that is very well done. We are so thankful that our boys have discovered lacrosse from this program.”
“This is our last year of Surge lacrosse and we will definitely miss the amazing coaches and the instructional care they give to the kids. My son loves this sport and that love was nurtured substantially with this league.”
“It was my son’s first experience with touching a lacrosse stick and he absolutely loves it. The coaches and volunteers have exceeded all of our expectations for the type of leaders we want to see in our son’s sports experience!"
“It only takes one Surge practice to realize that the coaches are the real deal – they know the sport, have the passion and patience, and preach sportsmanship. This is not a bunch of dads that agreed to coach because no one else would. Lacrosse quickly became my son’s favorite sport.”
"I had the opportunity to bring my grandson to the last four practices. I was impressed by the way each practice was structured and executed, the individual attention players received from the coaches and volunteers and how dedicated people are to a sport. Good luck and GO SURGE."
“The entire program is extremely well run: Coaches and organizers respond quickly to emails/calls; are positive and supportive during practices; and maintain a caliber that is uncommonly high. We make the drive to Buckhead from East Point three days a week because we are so appreciative!"
Practices and home games take place at North Atlanta High School turf and grass fields, Sutton Middle School turf field and various school and park fields as needed. Because seasons vary, you will be instructed each fall and spring as to where your activity will take place.
